Rush, Chalmers arrested for possession.

LAWRENCE, KS. (AP) -- University of Kansas freshmen basketball players Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers are facing possession of marijuana complaints in Lawrence.

Police records show officers were called by security guards to a university dormitory shortly before midnight March 31st and contacted Rush and Chalmers.

The records say both players admitted smoking marijuana but said they didn't have any left. Police say they entered the apartment and saw a portion of a block of marijuana on top of a television.

Police confiscated the substance and issued Rush and Chalmers citations then released them. They are due in Douglas County District Court on April 19th at 4 pm.

University officials and Kansas Men's Basketball coaching staff were unavailable for comment.

Rush and Chalmers are freshmen and have three years of eligibility left at Kansas.

  1. BTW everybody. I got a real job and stuff. This may cut into my blogging time (even though paradoxically, having a real job greatly augments Deron's blogging time?)

So I'm working For Riling, Burkhead, and Nichter on Mass St. It's great, I walk to work every day, they buy us lunch somewhere on Mass, I talk to idiots all day, and they give me enough money to start paying off my student loans.

If anybody gets arrested in Larryville, feel free to give me a ring.

  2. Nicely done, J Scott. You had me scouring kusports.com before I even noticed your link there. . . .

Once again, congrats on the job!

  3. Just as soon as you start soliciting for clients, Rush and Chalmers run afoul of the law. What a coup!

Congrats on the job--Haley told me. I don't frankly see how you could blog less than you have lately, but I'll chalk that up to the rigors of the job search.

I may not be able to get away with as much blogging as I have recently now that my job duties are somewhat expanding (though I may post something about tonight's championship game). Sooner or later, though, I'll break down and get Internet service at home.

As for the Rush/Chalmers thing: while I think smoking weed is without exception the most innocuous illegal thing you can do, it still bothers me a bit. Players who smoke do not typically meet expectations on the court--Jeff Graves and Lamar Odom come to mind. I can't think of a single great player who ever had a marijuana rap. Can anyone help me on this?

Scott, does the gigantic cheesecake picture of Brandon signify that you hold him in higher esteem now that you know he gets high?

  4. Oops, I guess I put my foot in it. Well crafted, Scotty.

  5. Thanks for leaving the original comment up--nice to see I wasn't the only one taken in.

I guess Kareem smokes prescription marijuana, but I'm stumped on a star who smoked and played. . . .

Aha--according to Wikipedia, Iverson was arrested for possession in '97.

  6. After seeing the picture above, I think Rush should be cited for possession -- of the most beautiful liquid-brown eyes I've ever seen.

  7. BTW, this actually did happen to OU point guard Terell Everett a couple of days ago. I just switched the names in the article.

    Hah, ha!

  8. The good news just keeps coming for OU, doesn't it?

What's sad is how ready I was to believe it about Rush and Chalmers.
