Championship Week, Anyone?

OK, we're capping off a seventh consecutive conference title, a 28-2 record, a lock for a #1 seed, the conference COY and POY. It's March, people. If that isn't enough to get a little buzz going here, this blog is doomed.

Yeah, yeah, we're all busy. Five minutes out of your day, people.

Caught a break with OSU upsetting Nebraska. If we never play the Huskers again -- and I do mean never, which is a distinct possibility -- that'll be fine by me. But OSU does have some good players, and they'll be a lot more motivated than us, so it could be a somewhat tough outing.

  1. THIS BLOG IS DOOMED!

I see we're up 9-6 and 4 of our starters have scored in the first 4 minutes. Not bad.

In Big 12 tourney news, I feel bad for Baylor for Perry Jones' ineligible ruling. A pretty bullshit call by the NCAA that ruined their chances in the conference tourney which DOOMED their shot at making the big dance.

Anyone catch the great piece on Marcus Morris yesterday?

    READ IT!

  2. I can't watch this one, but not looking too good so far. Down 7 with a few minutes left till half.

So much for our lockdown D against Keeton Page from the game in Lawrence. He already has 10.

  3. Lucky to be down just 6 at halftime with these stats: 7-14 from the line and 2-11 on 3s (why so many attempts?)

  4. Can't watch it either.

Bad seems to be interior D, free throw shooting.

Good is the Pokes are in foul trouble, we only have 4 turnovers, and we were down by 5 at halftime to this team in the Big 12 tourney in '08.

  5. Now within 2. Cowboys won't withstand this run -- will they?

  6. Up just 1 with 5: and change left. We seem to have blown a lot of opportunities to run away with this one after OSU went cold.

I wish someone could explain to me why we've cranked up 19 trey attempts against an overmatched opponent.

  7. We missed two more 3's just in the time it took me to type that.

  8. AND just while I was typing THAT we cranked up yet another one, but this time FINALLY a make, by Marcus. Up 4 with 3:30 to go.

  9. And now we've blown that lead with yet more 3-point misses.

OSU with one last shot to win, 20 seconds left down one.

  10. KANSAS WITH THE WIN!

Ugly, but better than Pitt who went down to the evil UCONN.

  11. I guess it's good to know we can win shooting 36 percent. I guess.

Just saw the replay of the last possession -- we defended well. OSU had 20 seconds to make something happen, but the look they got wasn't too good.

  12. I don't know where I got that down by 5 to OSU in '08 Big 12 tourney stat. Disregard.

  13. I think we struggled vs. the Sooners in that year's tourney.

Another correction: I had our record wrong. We've now hit 30 wins, baby!

  14. That's 4 30 win seasons under Self.

Also, apparently we won by this exact same score over OSU in the 2006 Big 12 Tourney.

Which means we'll lose in the 1st round to a mid major?

  15. Wow, we could not look worse in the first 10 minutes vs. Colorado. Horrible offense, worse defense. I was just saying to Chris recently how I liked the fact that this team starts games much better than last year's team. But right now I'm having flashbacks to the first two rounds of the Big Dance last year.

Holy shit, I don't think we've had a defensive possession yet without giving up a bucket or a foul. OK, there's a stop finally. Within 7, hooray.

  16. Ha ha. And then the twins proceed to score 17 straight for us. Pretty fast comeback once it got started. It'd be nice if someone else could score, however.

  17. Reed finally gets a 3 to fall. That may have given us the breathing room we need.

  18. Two big 3s by Tyrel in the endgame. Brady seems to have lost the touch, though.

Hey, good game for Tyshawn Taylor. Didn't know if I would ever utter that sentence again.
