Coach K & Co. KO.'d

It's been 10 years in the making since our last win over the evil empire, and how sweet it was. In fact, this is maybe our biggest non-conference season win since Florida in '07.

After Friday's game, I was starting to wonder how we were going to continue our Big 12 streak with such a callow team. After Tuesday's game, I'm wondering how could we not win the Big 12?

Lots of chatter about the freshmen in Chicago, and well deserved. Randle and Parker were tremendous, maybe better than Wiggins but he had the last laugh. Also tremendous: Selden and my man, Frank Mason.

Our best player, however, was Perry. I'm so amped to see his great play from this spring rolling over into the fall.

Yancy, what did you think of the Roy-esque score? I know the rule changes/emphases are generating a lot of criticism, but I love the fact that the NCAA is trying to open the game up. The only problem is the less-skilled refs take this as a license to blow the whistle on anything that even looks like contact--see our game vs. Louisiana-Monroe.

I know Self doesn't like the new rules; it's going to be a huge challenge to his coaching style, just as it was for my once defensive-minded Spurs when the NBA made a similar initiative. Popovich adjusted, and Self can do the same--especially with the offensive talent we have right now.

  1. Hey sorry for the lag...

I do agree that the NCAA's goals are worth working toward. It was pretty frustrating to watch so much free throw shooting, and it took some of the fun out of that score to have to build toward it so slowly...

And how does a team shoot like 55% against us???

But all that aside, it was a great game. Really looking forward to the rest of the season! Bring on Iona!

  2. And Iona goes down!

I was unable to watch or listen at home (thanks for nothing, Time Warner cable), which really sucked as everyone on Twitter was flipping out over a seemingly endless succession of alley oops (including a Frank Mason dunk!) and nifty Ellis/Embiid post moves. ESPN's reel was disappointing, but the athletic department's reel is sweet, though short.

  3. Yeah we've taken to watching replays of the weeknight games on ESPN3.com, what with Franklin and all that... Thanks for something, Comcast!

Seemed a little flat and it took quite a while to really pull away, but that's understandable given the circumstances.

Embiid was definitely fun, and, man, Ellis is seriously looking great this year. Unstoppable.

  4. And Towson goes down! This team was supposed to be as good or better than Iona (and Iona was no slouch), and this was just a merciless beatdown.

Offensively, this team looks as good as any in the Self era (albeit with some help from rules changes). ESPN reel was good this time.

By the way, I know he wasn't the headline out of this game, but I just want to note that Perry is shooting 74 percent on the year.
